Explorer post

Program Operations

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, to which members pay annual dues that also cover their insurance. Explorers are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms, funded through a combination of personal contributions and organized fundraising events.

The Explorer Post holds monthly meetings at the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office. These meetings follow established bylaws and are led by elected officers, focusing on financial updates as well as both new and ongoing business.

The program is currently accepting applications from motivated youth between the ages of 14 and 21. Applicants must be residents of Wyoming County, in good standing with both the law and their educational institution. Applications are available at the Sheriff’s Office or through current Explorer members.

experience law enforcement firsthand

The Explorer Post actively participates in various community events, including the Wyoming County Fair and other local initiatives. Through monthly “ride-alongs” with deputies, explorers gain valuable hands-on experience, assisting with day-to-day operations and developing practical skills in real-world law enforcement settings.

Monthly meetings also include structured training sessions covering topics such as law enforcement procedures, drug awareness, and public safety. Additional instruction is provided by the Communications Division, where Explorers learn how to operate within the 911 emergency call center, and the Jail Division, which offers insight into arrest processing and facility security protocols.

Training opportunities extend beyond the Sheriff’s Office, with off-site sessions hosted by partner agencies and law enforcement facilities, offering Explorers a broad perspective on careers in public safety.

Explorers Become Officers
