Medicaid Programs

About the program

Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that provides free or low-cost health coverage to eligible individuals and families with limited income and resources. The program helps cover essential medical services such as doctor visits, hospital care, prescription drugs, preventive care, and long-term care.

The program ensures that vulnerable people, including children, pregnant individuals, older adults, and people with disabilities, have access to the health care they need.

WHO CAN APPLY

You may be eligible for Medicaid if you are a resident of New York State and meet certain income, resource, age, or disability requirements.

Medicaid provides free or low-cost health coverage to:

  • Adults with low income
  • Children
  • Pregnant individuals
  • Older adults (65 and over)
  • People with disabilities
  • Parents and caretakers of dependent children

Eligibility is based on household income and size, and in some cases, on age, disability status, or medical need. Some individuals may qualify even if their income is above the regular Medicaid limits through spend down or Medicaid Buy-In programs.
