About the program
Temporary Assistance (TA) is temporary help for needy adults and children. If you are unable to work, can't find a job, or your job does not pay enough, TA may be able to help you pay for your expenses.
programs
In New York State, Temporary Assistance includes two main programs:
Family Assistance (FA)
- Helps eligible families with children under 18 (or under 19 if still in school).
Safety Net Assistance (SNA)
- Provides support for individuals and families who do not qualify for Family Assistance, including single adults, childless couples, and certain non-citizens.
Temporary Assistance can also help recipients find work, gain job skills, and access support services to achieve long-term self-sufficiency.
ELIGIBILITY
Each individual and household's circumstances are different, and several factors may impact a household's eligibility for benefits, including household size, housing situation, income level, type of income, resources and other benefits received. In addition, there are certain eligibility requirements for applicants and recipients of Temporary Assistance, such as drug and alcohol screening and assessment, cooperation with child support enforcement activities, and cooperation with employment activities (e.g., job search).
