Victim Assistance

Victim advocacy services

The District Attorney’s Office has a Victim Advocate available to assist victims of crime. Our goal is to make your experience with the criminal justice system as clear and manageable as possible.

The Victim Advocate can assist by:

  • Accompanying victims to court, if they wish to attend proceedings

  • Providing information about court dates, times, and case outcomes

  • Assisting with Orders of Protection

  • Helping victims seek restitution for out-of-pocket expenses directly related to the crime, such as medical bills, counseling, or property damage

  • Assisting with applications for compensation through the New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS)

If you have incurred out-of-pocket expenses, please discuss them with our office, so the District Attorney may attempt to obtain court-ordered restitution.

"No drop" policy

The District Attorney’s Office has a “no drop” policy. While we make every effort to consider each victim’s individual circumstances, once charges are filed by a law enforcement agency, the case will proceed with prosecution.

Discrimination policy

The Office of the Wyoming County District Attorney does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age in the delivery of services to victims of crime.

Any person who believes they have been excluded from participation in, denied benefits or services from, or subjected to discrimination under any federally funded program or activity administered by DCJS sub-recipients may file a discrimination complaint with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).

  • Complaints must be filed within 180 days of the alleged occurrence.

Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) Funding

The Wyoming County District Attorney’s Office is a recipient of Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) funding through DCJS.
