  3. Driveway Pipe Installation Policy

    1.  The following Driveway Permit applies ONLY to County Roads.  Wyoming County cannot approve permits on a Town Road or State Road.  Before submitting and paying for a Driveway Permit, if you should have any questions, please call County Highway at 786-8955 and confirm that the proposed location is in fact on a County Road – see County Road Map on Highway tab of the County website.

    2.  FOR NEW DRIVEWAY:  Once the location has been approved, the Permit applicant will supply and install the Smooth Interior Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe (per NYSDOT 706-12 specs).  Driveway pipe shall not be substandard material.  Wyoming County Highway does not install the driveway pipe(s).

    3.  FOR WIDENING AN EXISTING DRIVEWAY in Satisfactory Condition:  Once the existing pipe is inspected and found to be in satisfactory condition, the Applicant may be approved to widen the driveway.  The Applicant shall supply and install the pipe to match the existing pipe in material and size.  Wyoming County Highway does not install the extended driveway pipe(s).

    4.  FOR WIDENING AN EXISTING DRIVEWAY in Unsatisfactory Condition:  If the existing pipe is inspected and found to be in unsatisfactory condition, County Highway will replace the existing driveway pipe.  At that point, the Applicant will supply and install their own pipe to match the recently replaced pipe in material and size.  Wyoming County Highway does not install the extended driveway pipe(s).

    5.  FOR REPLACING AN EXISTING DRIVEWAY in Unsatisfactory Condition:  If the existing pipe is in unsatisfactory condition, County Highway will replace the existing driveway pipe at the same width, not less than 20’.

    6.  Pipes must have at least 12" of coverage over them whenever possible to prevent crushing of pipe.  If the existing ditch is not deep enough when checked by County Highway, then the permit applicant will be notified and the County will clean the ditch before installation to accommodate the pipe.

    7.  If more than 20 feet of pipe is used for installation, all connections must have proper banding according to manufacturer’s recommendations.

    8.  Pipes must have suitable backfill material (gravel, crushed stone, etc.) and be installed and adequately tamped in 6” lifts to minimize settling.

    9.  All pipes must have appropriate end sections.

    10.  It is the responsibility of the pipe installer to take the necessary steps to locate any and all utilities in work area.

    11.  Please stake proposed driveway location or clearly mark in some way.

    12.  There is a non-refundable fee of $25.00 – payable to Wyoming County Highway Department.

    13.  Please allow a minimum of two (2) weeks for information to be checked and approved.

    14.  The said permittee shall be responsible for all damaged resulting in bodily injury including death and/or property damage liability due to activities of the permittee, its contractors, sub-contractors, of either both agents or employees in connection with any act or omission hereunder, and does hereby expressly agree to indemnify and save harmless the County of Wyoming from any and all responsibility or liability arising out of, or resulting from, any act or omission hereunder.
